What is the purpose of The Shadow Court?

There are a few main purposes the court has:

Governance: The Shadow Court decides on laws and rights, policies and den rules. They oversee all of the systems in place that maintain the realm under legislation.

Judiciary: The Shadow Court hears live cases on the official Twitch stream to determine just outcomes on all petitions and submissions by the community as well as review appeals on enforcement action (such as ban appeals) under Shadow Realm Laws & Rights. All finished cases with judgements ruled on them are published under the relevant jurisdiction case list.

Pro-Active Determination: The Shadow Court also keeps an eye on outside human behaviour to the realm to eventually pass judgement on them based on inside realm laws and rights. This is called pro-active determination. This strategy allows The Shadow Court to collect information and make rulings on considerable risks or threats before they even arrive to become a problem in the realm and its residents. Pro-active determination is also used to obtain knowledge on systems and individuals that could benefit the realm by either examining an unknown concept or outsider to determine their benefits to the realm before extending an invitation or creating policy.

What are the jurisdictions of The Shadow Court?

There are four jurisdictions that Shadow Judges can preside over:

The Shadow Court of Protection: Governs the online safety and security of the realm. Our Shaden Warriors operate under this jurisdiction.

The Shadow Court of Creation: Governs content creation, branding and creative development within the realm (including the stream).

The Shadow Court of Judgement: Reviewing content to be defined by the court what something is and isn't, and how the realm sees the difference between right and wrong not just under Shadow Realm Laws & Rights but also under The Lore.

The Shadow Court of Justice: Dispute resolution governance. Under The Inner Circle of Shadow, Justice has full appellate authority, checking laws respect rights, enforcement appeal decisions and reviewing any Shadow Court rulings.

How do I become a Shadow Judge?

Shadow Judges are hand-picked by The Dark Lord of Shadows either temporarily or permanently to sit on the bench.

The selection process is usually via personal invitation or open Expressions of Interest through The Shadow Spirit Den Discord.

Interested Shadelings should note that exercising consistently good judgement and exceptional knowledge and interpretation of the laws and rights of the realm is a considerable factor during The Dark Lord's decision-making process when recruiting Shadow Judges.

What roles does a Shadow Judge have?

This can depend on the jurisdiction they are presiding over, but generally speaking, their roles are as follows:

  • Governance: Shadow Judges ensure their jurisdiction operates well under realm laws and rights.
  • Policy oversight: Shadow Judges oversee how their jurisdiction operates under active policies and improves on policies when necessary.
  • Appeals review: Shadow Judges can jointly participate in appeal reviews regarding enforcement action, policy reviews, and disputes across all jurisdictions of the realm as organised by The Shadow Court of Justice.
  • Judicial Presiding: When a petition is submitted by the community, Shadow Judges can hear cases in a formal court setting, allowing them to demonstrate their full judicial authority.

Can I get help from a Shadow Judge without undergoing a formal hearing?

Shadow Judges hearing matters and making rulings outside of court is limited, depending on their jurisdiction and what the matter is. They still have governance authority outside of a formal hearing setting, but there are rules on what they can and can't do outside of this setting. If you contact one, they will guide you on how they can help.

Can a Shadow Judge help if I want to report someone breaking the rules?

Shadow Judges like to know what's happening inside and outside the realm, but they are not necessarily trained in online moderation or in taking enforcement action. You should contact a Shaden Warrior by using the Alert a Shaden tool so that appropriate action can be taken on the individual.

If your issue relates to higher-level concerns threatening the safety and security of the realm, please submit a petition to The Shadow Court of Protection. Shadow Judges can rule enforcement action on individuals, but they do not typically carry out these rulings themselves.

What does a Shadow Executor do?

Serving directly under their assigned Shadow Judge, Shadow Executors carry out high-severity rulings, decrees, escalated decisions and strategic actions within their court's jurisdiction.

They act strictly under the authority and direction of their Shadow Judge and do not operate with independent governance or judicial authority.

Shadow Executors by jurisdiction:

  • Shadow Executor of Protection: This is a high ranking Shaden that executes enforcement orders that uphold the realm's online safety and security standards on behalf of The Shadow Judge of Protection.
  • Shadow Executor of Creation: Executors in this area carry out court decrees on behalf of The Shadow Judge of Creation to implement content creation, branding and development initiatives within the realm such as graphic designers, animators, video editors, channel managers and technical creators.
  • Shadow Executor of Judgement: Executors of Judgement will ensure that judgements are communicated to all relevant areas affected by that judgement such as all parties involved or by ensuring other jurisdictions are aware of the judgement and relatable concerns their Shadow Judge has. They also assist the Shadow Judge of Judgement, by decree, in collecting relatable evidence or content on a particular case the Shadow Judge is presiding over if they request more information about a particular issue before they pass judgement.
  • Shadow Executor of Justice: Under appellate and corrective judicial authority, Shadow Executors of Justice make sure that the highest form of authority of The Shadow Court is maintained through rulings and decrees of The Shadow Judge of Justice.

Are Shadow Executors moderators?

No. Shadow Executors and Shaden Warriors are not the same. Shaden Warriors actively enforce the rules, guide Shadelings around the realm, answering their questions and responding to calls for help from Shadelings. Shadow Executors only act by decree of their Shadow Judge. You can read About Shadens here.

Can I get help from a Shadow Executor?

No. The purpose of a Shadow Executor is to carry out the decrees of their respective Shadow Judge.

You will likely be directed to make a petition or, if it's in relation to an online safety or moderation issue, you will be directed to Alert a Shaden for assistance.

How do I become a Shadow Executor?

Shadow Executor positions are only available on invitation by The Shadow Court or assigned by a Member of The Inner Circle of Shadow.

As the relationship between The Shadow Judge and their Shadow Executors is a close and personal one, typically The Dark Lord allows The Shadow Judge discretion in selecting their Shadow Executors.

How many Shadow Executors can there be in a single jurisdiction?

There is no fixed number but this typically is decided on workload demand and is usually up to the discretion of The Shadow Judge.
