Enforcement action โ how this is determined
All areas of the realm are subject to the Laws and Rights of the realm. Shadens patrol the chats across all areas and check all Shadeling generated content to make sure that it is abiding by these laws.
If a Shaden is presented with evidence that someone is breaking the law, they will assess the severity and make a decision whether they will continue to watch the offender to determine intent without taking any action or they will take action immediately. This is highly dependent on context because they need to take an action that is proportionate to the situation. This may not always be obvious, and it shouldn't be. Shadens can undertake surveillance on anyone that enters the realm to ensure they are not going to break any laws.
Possible Enforcement Actions
Shadens have a series of tools at their disposal to deal with law breakers on the spot.
Warnings
Shadens can issue warnings to offenders. Typically warnings are just messages. In some cases, they will need to acknowledge the warning before being able to chat again.
Timeouts & Mutes
If the offender continues after a warning or if they did something a bit more serious, Shadens can issue timeouts. This means that the offender can still view chats and/or stream but they cannot communicate in chat even with channel points, subs, bits or donations until the timeout has finished. Depending on the total count of offenses and their severities, timeout lengths can increase.
Bans
As a typical last resort, Shadens can hand out a ban if they don't believe there is any hope with the Shadeling improving their behaviour when a serious offense is committed.
Restrictions
Used in special cases and sometimes by decree of The Shadow Court, Shadelings with a history of misbehaviour but are not banned, or have just come off a ban, may be placed in a restricted status. This means the Shadeling will have every post / message checked by Shadens before it is sent.
Help with Enforcement Actions
If you receive enforcement action from a Shaden, you should check the rules and adjust your behaviour especially if you have actually broken the laws.
Even if you know you haven't done anything, then it's still best not to react to the Shaden in a live chat scenario as that can be seen as disruptive or not following their instructions.
You do have the right to appeal any enforcement action by submitting a petition to The Shadow Court.
